By John Eremu EDUCATION Minister, Dr. Khiddu Makubuya last week commissioned a US$2.5m (sh4.4b) Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) headquarters and printery. The World Bank-funded project is located on on Kyambogo hill opposite Uganda Polytechnic. Makubuya urged dignitaries who attended the function to vote for President Yoweri Museveni in next month's presidential elections, saying his good economic and political polices had built donor confidence in the country. "It would be short-sighted and counterproductive for anyone to suggest at this point in time that we abandon these policies and plunge into abysmal darkness," Makubuya said. "It would be tragic to change the leadership that has given Uganda the confidence of our development partners," he said. The minister commended the board for acquiring a permanent home and said cases of examination leakages should now be "part of Uganda's past bad history." He said the ultra-modern printery would be capable of printing 13,000 sheets or 26,000 printed sides per hour. The complex built by Mugoya Construction Company, has 1000 square metres of office space and another 600 of printing space and a strong room for confidential materials. The ministry's acting Permanent Secretary, Mr. Fagil Mandy, said the new building and equipment would enable the ministry and its other arms like the National Curriculum development Centre, UNEB and the Education Service Commission provide quality education. UNEB chairman Wana Etyem who is also board chairman Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo hailed the work. Ends
