State minister for primary education Geraldine Bitamazire has commended the Aga Khan Education Service for its contribution to Uganda's education sector.
Bitamazire, in a speech read for her by the Principal Education Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Kusemererwa, while awarding certificates in language proficiency at Aga Khan High school, on Monday, thanked the Aga Khan Education Service for its contribution to the education of Ugandans.
She appealed to the organisation to facilitate teachers to write English and French text books in order to improve their proficiency in schools.
The acting director of the Aga Khan University based in Pakistan, Prof. Gordon Maclead, said 22 teachers from Uganda and 55 others from East Africa benefited from the visiting teachers programme aimed at upgrading their academic skills.
"This programme is the first in a series of training activities scheduled to take place in East Africa over the next two years," Maclead said.
He said their mission was quality improvement in education through school and individual capacity improvement.
Maclead said the beneficiaries were teachers from Aga Khan schools, the Muslim Girls Primary School and Kyaggwe Road Primary School.
The Aga Khan University director of administration, Dr. Sadruddin Pardhan, attended the award ceremony.
