The Ministry of Education and Sports has donated a new Isuzu Pick-up and a Laptop computer to the education department to ensure improvement in education in Lira district.
The Minister of State for primary education, Mrs. Namirembe Bitamazire handed over the car to Lira deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Ben Ogwete Otim, at the ministry headquarters.
The Lira LC5 boss, James Obua Otoa, said the donation was in line with the government programme under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) to improve the deterriorating standard of education in the district.
"This vehicle has been donated to facilitate the education department, it should not be associated with politics. I am urging the concerned authorities to make sure they put the vehicle to proper use as instructed by the ministry," Obua said.
He urged the District Education Officer to take advantage of the facilities with the aim of improving education in the district.
Obua thanked the ministry for the donation.
The deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Ben Ogwete warned the education department against reckless handling of facilities which will advance academics in the schools.
He said the facilities should be monitered.
