By Darious Magara THE Minister for general duties in the president's office, Prof. Mondo Kagonyera, has advised boda boda transporters in Kabale to start family planning to fight poverty. Kagonyera was closing a one-day workshop for bodaboda operators organised by the Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Mr James Mwesigye. The meeting was addressed by Poverty Alleviation Project officials and the police. Kagonyera said without applying family planning methods to reduce the number of children they were producing, it would be impossible to end poverty and illiteracy. Some of the boda boda operators told Kagonyera that they were married and had up to six children each. "If the former president of America, Bill Clinton, has one child, what about me Kagonyera and you low income earners?" he asked. He said if population growth in Africa and Uganda in particular was not checked it could lead to problems like in India and China. Kagonyera said it was a wise decision to support President Yoweri Museveni's bid for re-election because he is an experienced leader in whose reign Uganda had realised peace and development. He told them not to despise their work, saying it was an organised business. Kagonyera advised them to be trustworthy and hardworking. Ends
