By Nathan Etengu THE Vice-Chairman of the Movement, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo has said the Democratic Party is using presidential candidate, Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye, as a conduit through which to gain political leadership. He said when the DP president general, Dr. Paul Ssemogerere was beaten in the 1996 presidential elections he realised that he could not contest anymore. Addressing campaign meetings in Mbale on Saturday, Kigongo said, "Ssemogerere was politically beaten until his trousers got torn. It is for this reason that he is trying to pass through the likes of Besigye in order to ascend to power." Kigongo who is also the national chairman of candidate Yoweri Museveni's campaign task force, held rallies for women leaders in Mbale Municipality and in Bukonde sub-county, north of Mbale town. The rallies were attended by the National Political Commissar, Mr. James Wapakhabulo and the Mbale Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Hassan Wasswa Galiwango. Kigongo said Besigye did not hold any position in the Movement Secretariat and that his (Besigye's) claim that he was campaigning on a Movement ticket was uncalled for. "We know the leadership in the Movement. We have the chairman, Mr. Yoweri Museveni while I am the Vice-Chairman, and Mr. Wapakhabulo here is the NPC. Where does Besigye belong?" he asked. He said Besigye will suffer the same political fate his (Besigye's) chief campaign manager, Hajji Nasser Sebaggala suffered. He said he advised Sebaggala not to venture into politics but he ignored his advice. Ends
