Charlie 'Macarena' wins USPA rally

NATIONAL rally champion Charlie Lubega was yesterday unanimously voted sportsman-of-the- month of February by the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA).

By Leo Kabunga NATIONAL rally champion Charlie Lubega was yesterday unanimously voted sportsman-of-the- month of February by the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA). Lubega, navigated by Abed Musa in a Mitsubishi Evo 4, beat former champions Moses Lumala and Charles Muhangi in a two day rally that cruised through challenging hills in Mbarara, Ntungamo, Bushenyi and Rukungiri last month. Scribes, at a meeting at Tourist Hotel in Kampala, commended Lubega for taming a strong field for his first win this season. He emerged supreme in six of the Mbarara rally's nine sections. USPA members also commended Mbarara Motor Club for successfully organising the two-day rally and KCC for winning the East Africa inter- cities football championship. The Arua District team that were the overall winners of the national cross-country, were also commended. Meanwhile, USPA will hold its annual general assembly in April at a date to be communicated to members. USPA executive will also take an initiative to fundraise for Mama Rebecca Kazibwe who is bed ridden in Kampala. She requires sh6m for treatment abroad. Kazibwe is one of the founders of women soccer in Uganda, and is a leading fans of all sports in the country. She is a die-hard Express fan. ends
