By Davis Weddi UNIDENTIFIED armed thugs yesterday morning attacked the Bunga residence of senior presidential advisor on the media, Mr. John Nagenda, and hacked his security guard, before robbing a gun and household items. The guard, Robert Kisira, a Police officer attached to the Mobile Police Patrol Unit, sustained deep machete cuts on his head. He was rushed in critical condition for treatment to Mulago Hospital but is now in stable condition. Nagenda said the thugs struck at around 4:45am. Police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said the thugs were four. The thugs grabbed the guard's gun and made off with items including a television set, mosquito net, a bunch of keys and the key for Nagenda's vehicle. Nagenda's housemaid reportedly narrowly survived being hacked. She got into an inner room and locked the thugs off from the rest of the house. The enraged thugs then tried to break down the door with their machetes but failed to gain access. Nagenda said he heard a noise in the compound and shouted out to his guard to go and kill the intruders. He, however said, the intruders seemed to have known where the guard and they found him and and cut him. "Robert managed to jump over the wall with blood flowing from his head, and ran for about a kilometre and reported the matter to Bunga Police Post," Nagenda said. "The thugs said, 'Mzee tuwe tugende, (Old man give us something and we go away).' I suppose they wanted money for the weekend," he said. He said, "I assume these were ordinary thugs, but don't forget, not long ago Lukyamuzi and Sebaggala called on people to buy machetes, whether this is directly related to the attack on my home I do not know."
