President Yoweri has met the Chief of Military Intelligence, Lt. Col. Noble Mayombo, over the army's decision to bar former presidential candidate Col Kizza Besigye and other political leaders from leaving the country, reports John Odyek. Mayombo said he met Museveni yesterday to brief him about the Besigye saga. "I met him (Museveni) on Sunday and today," Mayombo said. He said the meeting took place at Museveni's ranch in Kisozi. BBC yesterday reported that Besigye was blocked because he was going to meet Rwanda's President Paul Kagame in South Africa. It said Besigye and Kagame were scheduled to arrive on Saturday in South Africa. Government has declared Rwanda as one of the countries that are hostile to Uganda. Asked about the BBC report, Mayombo said, "I cannot comment on that one." Army Spokesman Lt Col Phinehas Katirima said the BBC report was false. "He (Besigye) was stopped for different reasons. We have expressed our reasons." Mayombo on Saturday stopped Besigye from flying out of the country, saying the Colonel may be linked to the bombs rocking Kampala. He said suspected politicians must seek permission from Museveni or the security minister before leaving the country. Ends
