FIVE senior officials of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of four computers, reports James Mujuni in Mbarara. The suspects were arrested by the Police on Monday after a computer went missing from the laboratory. Further investigations revealed that three other computers were missing from the mains tore. Police identified the suspects as the internal auditor, Amos Ruhongole, computer technician Kelly Tumwine and the head of security, Stephen Rutandaro. The officer in charge of CID, Mr. Jonathan Edoku, identified other suspects as computer librarian Lawrence Kamuhanda and the university cashier, Merious Kamwebaze. The computers were part of a larger batch of about 30 PCs recently donated to the university to boost the department of computer science now offering a bachelors degree course. University administration sources told The New Vision on Tuesday that the computers disappeared from the store between December last year and March this year. "The thieves removed the PCs from their boxes and mixed the empty boxes with the sealed ones. We have just discovered that we have been storing empty boxes for three months," a senior university official told The New Vision. Ends
