By John B. B, Nzinjah THE army is combing the Rwenzori mountains in Bundibugyo district to ensure security for the over 150,000 internally displaced people who want to return home. "We are at the stage of combing the mountains to ensure that the people are safe when they return to their homes", the Bundibugyo Resident District Commissioner, C. Ndiwa Chemasuet, said last week. Chemasuet told The New Vision in his office in Bundibugyo town that the ADF had been incapacitated. He said the district leadership was under pressure from the displaced people who say are tired of staying in displacement. "They have been surviving on relief food from government and several relief agencies, both indigenous and international," Chemasuet said. He said the displaced people had asked to be helped to settle and start life again. In a separate interview, the Bundibugyo District Education Officer, Philemon Byakutaga, said the ADF rebel insurgency had taken the district 50 years behind in terms of education. He said the majority of parents in the district can no longer support their children in post-primary schools. Many young boys and girls have dropped out of school. "And this has taken the district 50 years behind in terms of education," he said. Ends
