Cotton Farmers Appeal To Govt

By Jossy Muhangi COTTON farmers in Kamuli district have appealed to the Government to stop the random sale of ginneries by the defunct cooperative unions managers. The chairman of the cotton farmers, Mr. Elija Kagoda, told the New Vision recently that through the Uganda Cotton Development organisation, they would revive and revitalise cotton growing in Kamuli and other areas of Busoga. He said it was demoralising to the farmers to see the uncontrolled rates at which the surviving union and society managers were selling off the the ginneries such as Busembatia, Luzinga, Balawooli and Nakivumbi. Kagoda said he would ensure that cotton farmers form committees at all levels, work with the technical staff to increase crop production, quality control and marketing. "I will liaise with local leaders in the district to sensitise the people on the intentions of the government to boost cotton production besides ensuring proper distribution of seeds and pestcides," he said.
