By Steven Matonya A thief who snatched a gold necklace from a woman along Kampala Road smeared Policemen with faeces as they tried to arrest him. The incident happened in the evening as tired workers returned home. Policemen, attached to the Police post situated next to Tropical African Bank, responded to an alarm raised by two women, one of whom the thief had grabbed the golden necklace from. As the policemen apprehended him, the thief defecated and started smearing them with faeces in a bid to resist arrest. He also smeared faeces on the lady he had snatched a necklace from. Whoever else touched him suffered the same fate. However, this did not stop the angry crowd that had gathered from stripping the man naked. The thief claimed that he had passed the necklace to one of his accomplice, he called Billy, who had already escaped. Most onlookers fled from the scene to avoid the foul smell. But the Policemen, despite being smeared with faeces, went on with their job. They bundled the naked thief on a patrol pick–up truck and drove him off to the Central Police Station (CPS) on Buganda Road. "Police should have left him to us," a crowd chorused. "We could have broken his legs and he would never have dared steal again." Ends
