Aswa MP Reagan Okumu has advised the state minister for security, Muruli Mukasa, to resign because the country is engulfed by insecurity.

"There is a lot of inefficiency in security. I humbly ask you to consider resigning," Okumu said. Muruli who is also MP for Nakasongola, on Thursday appeared before the committee on defence and presidential affairs to explain the murder of students at Makerere University and other security issues. MPs questioned the security of students at Nkumba University and Makerere University Business School. The committee chairman, Lt. Col. Christopher Mudoola (Kigulu North), said there were allegations that the murders of the students were related to 'detoothers' (female students fleecing men for money) and jilted lovers. Muruli said he would not resign because the parliamentary elections were one month away. "There have been several calls on me to resign. My term of office is coming to an end. It is not long, so there is no hurry," he said. Muruli said the security lapses at Makerere University had led to the death of four students since last year. Ends
