By L. Nalumansi Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala has repeated his attack on the Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP) and called upon Christians to reject it. Wamala said the pill was against the fourth commandment of God which says, "Thou shall not kill." Speaking in Rubaga Cathedral while celebrating Easter Mass yesterday, Wamala said, "What the Ministry of Health gave to the women of Uganda on their day (March 8) was this contraceptive pill which gives them the liberty to terminate human life in its most defenceless form." He added, "This is a lifestyle of contradiction. How can you condemn killing yet you allow mothers to kill a life conceived after sexual intercourse or condemn adultery yet you want to legalise prostitution?" The Mass was attended by hundreds of Christians who included Bank of Uganda's Deputy Governor, Louis Kasekende and his wife, Uganda's Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Semakula Kiwanuka, the Rubaga South MP Ken Lukyamuzi and his wife, the Buganda government Health Minister Robert Sebunya and Ssabalangira John Kanakulya. Wamala said that while modernity had brought with it changes that have improved the economic, social, political and religious aspects of the world, Christians should stick to living a lifestyle like that led by Jesus Christ. "There is a change in transport, communication, improvement in science and technology and all these changes that modernity has brought should be embraced by Christians. He, however, said this era had its shortfalls. "Mothers today give birth to children and abandon them. It is true Christians are part of the community here on earth and should therefore enjoy the same rights like other human beings. However, we should reject a lifestyle that is not compatible with the way Christ lived," he said. Wamala thanked Christians for denying themselves worldly pleasures during the 30 days of Lent and called upon them to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ which was proof that He conquered death.
