Olobo wins a triple in Mombasa Coast Open

UGANDAN sensation Patrick Olobo asserted his supremacy when he lifted three major titles as the Coast Open junior tennis championships came to an end at the Mvita Sports Club in Mombasa Monday.

By Reuben Olita in Nairobi UGANDAN sensation Patrick Olobo asserted his supremacy when he lifted three major titles as the Coast Open junior tennis championships came to an end at the Mvita Sports Club in Mombasa Monday. Olobo, though unseeded, opened his exploits when he won the under 16 title beating top seed Kenyan Kennedy Oduor 6-1, 6-0. He had eclipsed third seed Ginal Shah 6-3,6-2 in the semi-finals. The Ugandan rising star then went ahead to win the under-18 category when he beat local entrant Ronny Ndinya 6-1,6-2 in the final that lasted less than an hour. Olobo had beaten Oduor 9-7, 4-6, 6-0 in a thrilling semi final encounter that saw the Ugandan make a dramatic recovery to win the third set six love after falling in the second. As if his demolition of the Kenyans was not enough, Olobo, partnered with Oduor to win the men's doubles title when they beat Philip Koteng and J. Atish 6-3,6-2 in the final. Olobo told The New Vision he was excited with his emphatic victories saying that the week long event had exposed him a lot. Ends
