THE army yesterday said they were not aware of the whereabouts of Lt. Col. Samson Mande, the former military attaché to Tanzania, writes Emmy Allio.
Army spokesman Lt. Col. Phinehas Katirima said, "Col. Mande is not under arrest, we do not know where he is.
In fact we are asking the public for any information on his whereabouts."
Reports on Monday said Mande was on Monday last week re-arrested by plain-clothes security personnel who are keeping him in a "safe house" in Ggaba, Kampala.
Katirima said, "Safe houses were phased out and are a thing of the past. What we are aware is that Mande is not in a place of his abode and not at the hospital where he was receiving treatment." He added, "I am sure Mande has jumped bail since he was out on bail."
Reports said Mande feared for his life, adding that those who arrested him blindfolded and drove him for over two hours before dumping him in a safe house. Mande reportedly said this on phone.
Mande, who has been undergoing treatment at KADIC clinic in Bukoto in Kampala, was early this year arrested and charged with terrorism but later released on bail for ill-health.
