THE Police have given guidelines on the movement of traffic to the Namugongo Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations on Sunday, reports Catherine Ntabadde. A statement issued yesterday by the acting Regional Traffic Officer Kampala, Gabriel Tibayungwa, said all vehicles except lorries and buses headed to the Namugongo Catholic shrine will pass through Kireka via Kyaliwajala. It said it will be strictly a one-way traffic till the end of the function. All motorists heading to the Church of Uganda shrines for the celebrations will pass through Bweyogerere and Munsawo. The Police said the Bweyogerere-Munsawo route will also be one-way. All lorries and buses will access both churches through Bweyogerere. Public service vehicles commuting on that day will off-load passengers at Vienna Secondary School on Kyaliwajala-Ntinda Road, which will serve as a one-way exit. The statement said vehicles approaching the shrine from Kira sub-county will park at Namugongo Girls Primary School. Parking areas have been provided at Namugongo Secondary School, Namugongo Girls Primary School and Namugongo Church of Uganda Primary School playground. Lorries and buses will park at the Catholic Shrine grounds while VIP vehicles will be allocated parking areas on arrival. "All traffic will be controlled and directed by the Uganda Traffic Police at all points," the statement said. It warned bodaboda operators to strictly adhere to the arrangements. There will be no parking and off-loading of goods or passengers on roadsides. Any vehicles found parked, broken down or abandoned on the roadside will be towed to the Jinja Road Police Station. All road users were requested to co-operate with Police to avoid inconveniences. Ends
