THE Arua Chief Administrative officer, Mr. Abdul Isodo, has instructed the police in Arua to impound any government vehicles

THE Arua Chief Administrative officer, Mr. Abdul Isodo, has instructed the police in Arua to impound any government vehicles used by parliamentary candidates for their campaigns, reports Miria Sidney. Isodo said this last week in an interview with The New Vision at his office in Arua. The directive, however, does not apply to the official vehicle of the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Francis Ayume, who is seeking re-election in Koboko constituency and state minister for transport, Andruale Awuzu in Vurra constituency. Government registered vehicles violating the directive include among others, an Omin-bus number UG 0288M belonging to Arua School of Nursing and Mid-wifery and a double cabin pick-up donated to the district council by UNHCR for the Self Reliance Strategy programme. The Arua Returning Officer, Remmy Mike Wafula, said civil servants engaged in the campaigns without seeking official leave from the CAO include the headmaster of Arua Public Secondary School, Mr. Ezaruku and the principal tutor of Arua school of Nursing and Mid-Wifery, Ms. Margaret Angufiru. Isodo said, "There are some people who are becoming untouchables in the district may be because they campaigned for the president but I am going to write to them today." He said CAOs do not directly control district servants in secondary and tertiary institutions except for the delegated service of paying their salaries. Ends
