By Douglas Mazune Francis 'Machoman' Kiwanuka had to thank his experience when he was taken full distance by Meddie Kiberu to retain his Uganda professional featherweight title on Sunday. Kiwanuka (18-4, 4 KOs) had promised Kiberu (3-1-2) a knock out but was shocked by the determination and power of his little known challenger who took the match to a full 10-rounds. The judges declared the match a close 292-282 verdict before a sizeable crowd at Sabrina's Pub. "He was stronger than expected, he gave me hard time in the fifth round. I had to change my fight plan," said Kiwanuka. Kiberu, who suffered his first defeat, wants a rematch. "I want him again. He survived me in the fifth round." Kiwanuka faces Nigerian Aziz Onikoye for the vacant Africa Boxing Union featherweight title, in Ibadan next month. Abdu Sabata defeated Sam Wesonga on points in the light heavyweight undercard bout while Iga Kabaya knocked out George Sekandi in the featherweight title elimination fight. Ends
