By Richard Mutumba PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has thanked Kanungu residents for rejecting former presidential candidate Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye's "political treachery." Museveni said this recently while addressing rallies in Kayonza and Kihihi sub-counties of Kinkizi West constituency. A statement from State House Nakasero quoted Museveni as saying Besigye and his group wanted to tear apart the Movement which had over the past 15 years brought peace and development to the country. The statement said Museveni thanked the people of Kanungu for rejecting Besigye's political treachery when they gave him more than 95% of their votes in the presidential elections in May. Museveni urged Kanungu residents to vote for members of Parliament who are "steadfast, committed and unwavering supporters of the Movement, who will support him in passing development programmes when presented for approval in Parliament." Two candidates, Amama Mbabazi, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and James Musinguzi, a Kampala-based business consultant, are vying for the constituency's seat. Museveni told the residents he knew both candidates well but urged the people to vote for Mbabazi, whom he described as "an honest, sober and long serving Movement cadre whom he has worked with since 1974 when he was made co-ordinator of the internal network in the resistance against dictator Idi Amin.
