Wesonga Elected In Jail For Mbale's Bubulo West

MR. Edward Wesonga, the parliamentary candidate for Bubulo West, Mbale, who was on Monday charged with murder and remanded, has won the seat, reports Jonathan Angura.

MR. Edward Wesonga, the parliamentary candidate for Bubulo West, Mbale, who was on Monday charged with murder and remanded, has won the seat, reports Jonathan Angura. Wesonga, who was charged with the murder of a bodyguard of the incumbent area MP Wanjusi Wasieba, bagged 11,673 votes against 11,327 votes for his closest rival Sam Wonekha. Wesonga was charged in a Mbale court and remanded to Malukhu Prison. The hearing of the case comes up again on July 9. Wasieba's candidature for the seat was nullified on grounds that he did not have proper academic documents to enable him stand for the post. His bodyguard, Pte Maxwell Wasswa, was allegedly gunned down by Wesonga on Sunday June 24 in Bukitogo village, Bukigai sub-county. Mr. Richad Michael Nataka, trailed with 8,311 votes. In Bubulo East, provisional results showed that the incumbent, Mr. Patrick Nabutala, was in the third position with 6,309 votes while Mr. Michael Mumia was leading with 15,863 votes. Hoima RDC Simon Mulongo, whose bodyguard allegedly shot dead five people in a polling station in Lwakhakha on voting day, had 10,549 votes. Results from one parish were not ready by press time yesterday. In Manjiya, former director of Soroti Flying School David Makikona beat incumbent Samwiri Muyonga Wakikona. Ends
