Army, Police Rushed To Tingey

A contingent of UPDF soldiers and anti-riot Police were yesterday rushed to Tingey, Kapchorwa, to quell imminent election violence there. The violence was expected to erupt after the declaration of the election results.

The violence was expected to erupt after the declaration of the election results. The UPDF Third Division Commander, Col. Geoffrey Taban, said he also rang Lt. Leornard Chemonges to warn him against committing acts of violence. Chemonges is one of the candidates for the hotly contested Tingey county seat. He is challenging the incumbent, Dr. Steven Chebrot. Kapchorwa district Police commander James Ochaya said on phone yesterday that the results will be declared after the Police and army arrive. He said the tension over the elections started on Tuesday when commotion erupted at a polling station in Gamatui. Ends
