Residents of Kisaasi have reaped big in the just concluded parliamentary elections.

By George Abili Already, speculation is high about how they are going to benefit from their new found power. This is because for the first time, the Kawempe North MP was born and lives in Kisaasi. The new member of Parliament is Lartif Ssebagala, brother to Nasser Ssebagala, former Kampala mayor. "I had never dreamt that Rwakitura would ever come to Kisaasi. This is very good for our village, it is a great day for us," an excited resident said. He said that the roads in Kisaasi were going to be repaired and their schools would receive new funding. Another man said that this was their time to "eat" because members of Parliament get a lot of money to dish away. "My problems are now solved, whenever I get a problem, I will take them to my MP," one Kizza said. He pointed out the problems as lack of school fees for his children, lack of salt in his house among others. An elderly man in the village who has supported Lartif from day one also had something to say: "Even if I die now, l am happy that my burial will be attended by a member of parliament. I wish I died now when everything is still very fresh," he said. Poor fellow! But such is African politics. Ends
