I am ministerial material, says Sabiiti

By Darious Magara JACK Sabiiti, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Rukiga county in Kabale district, has said he is ministerial material and hopes to be appointed in the next cabinet. Sabiiti, the under Secretary in the justice ministry beat Manzi Tumubweine who was seeking re-election. Tumubweine is also the finance minister in charge of privatisation. It is not clear whether Tumubweine has conceded defeat or not as he could not be reached for comment. Sabiiti said, "I am now sure that president Yoweri Museveni will hear the voice of the Rukiga people since it is the prerogative of the president to make ministerial appointments." He was on Thursday responding to press questions in Kabale on whether Museveni would appoint Tumubweine as minister again. "if Museveni appoints Manzi, he will not have picked on him as a representative of the people," he added. Sabiiti said, "this is victory for the Rukiga people who have been in prison for many years but are now liberated." He added, "the era of intimidation and the use of money as a tool to buy votes, is over." Sabiiti said he would represent his people effectively and introduce development programmes to the area to eradicate poverty. Ends
