SIX athletes led by middle distance runner Moses Mpanga were named yesterday for the World Youth Championship in Hungary.

By William Muwonge SIX athletes led by middle distance runner Moses Mpanga were named yesterday for the World Youth Championship in Hungary. Mpanga who will run the 3,000m and Mary Bacia "Happy Mary" the 800m, are Uganda's top guns for the July 12-15 competition. Four other athletes picked will be competing for the first time on the international stage. Fazil Sabulya is going for the 200m, Patrick Komakech in the 100m and 200m and javelin throwers Lucy Aber and John Kibwota. The team members qualified for the world meet at the Eastern Africa Youth Championship in Kampala last month. Uganda Amateur Athletics Federation (UAAF) secretary Patrick Okanya, named the team. "We are sending a small team because of lack of funds," Okanya said. Mpanga and Bacia will join their colleagues after taking a two-week programme at the IAAF High Performance Training Centre in Eldoret. Ends
