VOTE recount in Igara East constituency ended on Saturday night with all candidates gaining votes, reports Raynel Kanyambu. the sworn-in MP, Richard Ndahura, remained in the lead, with 13394 votes. the Bushenyi Chief Magistrate, Deo Nizeyimana, who presided over the exercise said results formerly showing that Lt. Spencer Patrick Turwomwe polled 12,629 votes were now showing 12,748. In the recount, Sam Mwesigwa polled 440 instead of 438, Alfred Bangirana had 3,410 not 3,403 and Richard Ndahura the MP elect got 13,394 votes not 13,370. The vote recount was granted by court on Friday after the runner up, Turwomwe lodged an application that votes were doctored especially in Kyeizoba sub-county. Turwomwe had alleged that almost all the ballot boxes especially from Kyeizoba lacked a record book and that the ballot papers sent to the Electoral Commission lacked serial numbers. The final results announced by Nizeyimana and the returning officer, John Bitarabeho, were endorsed at 10:00pm by all candidates apart from Sam Mwesigwa. Before the exercise started, there were a lot of disagreements especially on 10 out of 76 ballot boxes that were found broken. Bitarabeho who had earlier rejected the recount said the ballot boxes were broken during transportation because of the inexperienced presiding officers. Turwomwe said he would take his case to the High Court. Ends
