By James Odong REBCCA Kadaga, the newly elected Deputy speaker of parliament, on Thursday got stuck in the dilapidated lift of parliament for about 10 minutes. Kadaga, also Kamuli Woman MP with 11 other MPs, was proceeding to the parliamentary canteen on the third floor of the House for an impromptu party following her unanimous election to the office of deputy speaker. One MP who was with Kadaga told the New Vision at Parliament after the incident that when the 13-capacity lift stopped between 2nd and 3rd floors, they started pressing the emergency buttons in vain. Others reportedly made phone calls on their mobiles to the acting Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, Lt. Col. Noble Mayombo and the Gulu based 4th division commander, Brig. Henry Tumukunde, for help but that their mobiles were switched off. "We were particularly worried that the oxygen in the lift would be exhausted and we would collapse one by one. "At least me, I was not so much worried because I'm still young, single and without a child," joked the young Aruu MP, Samuel Odonga Otto. Some MPs said they were advised against using the faulty lifts. Ends
