Be more alert, jinja RDC urges

THE Jinja Resident district commissioner, Patrick Baliddawa, on Monday held a security meeting with the business community

By Nathan Etengu and Robert Kanusu THE Jinja Resident district commissioner, Patrick Baliddawa, on Monday held a security meeting with the business community following bomb blasts in the area. Baliddawa asked them to report any suspicious characters to the Police. Baliddawa said clues that were still confidential pointed at some people who were seen by survivors and night food vendors shortly before the bombs went off. The first bomb exploded at the Mango Bar on Scindia Street killing one person and injuring eight others. The deceased, Moses Ngobi, died at Jinja referral hospital. It could not be ascertained whether Ngobi could have been used unknowingly to carry an explosive. Baliddawa however said the terrorist had devised new tricks of handing over the explosives to unsuspecting cyclist transporters telling them to wait for them at social places like bars. He said the unsuspecting cyclists were given money to buy themselves drinks while they wait for the owner of the "luggage". Baliddawa told the business community who included hotel owners, and petrol station dealers that the terrorists had devised other methods of concealing explosives. "Explosives are now made in form of mobile telephones and expensive bags. So be on the alert and avoid picking and keeping such objects whenever they are abandoned at your business premises," Baliddawa said. Meanwhile a loser in the Jinja Munucipality West parliamentary elections Mohammed Kezaala, has blamed the Government for the bomb explosions. Kezaala, who is also a member of the Uganda Young Democrats said, "A lot of taxpayers' money is lavishly used in Mbarara to back Ngoma Ngime against Winnie Byanyima. Our places are left without enough security, such massive expenditure should be used to equip and train the Police." Ends
