State minister for primary education, Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire recently commissioned Arua core Primary Teacher Training College (PTC), report Gilbert awekofua and Ahmed Angulibo. The buildings comprising of lecture theatres, offices, dormitories, toilets and staff houses are part of a project worth over sh2b. The cost of construction and equipment for the college was sh1b and the 36 co-ordinating centres in the districts of Nebbi Arua and Adjumani were constructed at sh1.1b. The construction was completed with the assistance of the Netherlands government and the work was done by Zzimwe Constructions Ltd. Bitamazire said the implementation of such a grand project in the district showed the government's commitment to improve on the quality of primary education under the Universal Primary Education programme. She was accompanied by the commisioner in-charge of planning Mrs Florence Malinga, the under secretary in the education ministry, Pious Bigirimana and others. They visited many primary schools in the district. Bitamazire said the government would reduce the pupil to teacher ratio from 1: 110 to 1:70 in the lower primary classes. Ends
