Lt. Col. Olega, Three Escorts Remanded

THE Commander of the UPDF reserve force in West Nile, Lt. Col. Alex Olega and three of his body guards, were yesterday remanded to Luzira on charges of abuse of office.

By Hillary Kiirya THE Commander of the UPDF reserve force in West Nile, Lt. Col. Alex Olega and three of his body guards, were yesterday remanded to Luzira on charges of abuse of office. Olega 49, Ahmed Nasur, 23, Moses Atiku and Thomas Adule, all privates, appeared before Buganda Road Court magistrate Duncan Gaswaga. They will re-appear in court on Monday for plea. Olega, who is attached to 409 Brigade, was arrested on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, following the shootings at Namare zone, in Mpererwe, in which four people were injured. The three bodyguards were charged with attempted murder, assault and injuring a Police constables Samuel Bukenya and Emmanuel Sanyu. A senior four student of Intensive High School, Haruna Lwasa, was also injured during the incident. The prosecution led by Casius Adille, alleged that Olega on May 27, at Namere zone in Mpererwe, failed to restrain his bodyguards from assaulting a Police officer who was on duty. Adille said on the same day, Olega's bodyguards assaulted, injured and attempted to cause death to Emmanuel Sanyu and a Police man Samuel Bukenya. Ends
