The Uganda Womens Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO) on Saturday launched its website www.uweso.com as part of the ongoing nationwide celebrations to mark 21 years of its existence.
Speaking at the launch at Kawempe Garden Hotel, the UWESO executive director, Pelucy Ntab-irwe, expressed hope that the website would impr-ove the lives of needy orphans by empowering local communities to meet the social, moral and economic needs of the children.
The ceremony included the closing of a three-day training workshop for UWESO staff.
The site, designed and hosted by Uganda Home Pages is expected to cost US$50 quarterly(three months) for maintenance.
UWESO is being sponsored by UNICEF, IFAD and the Belgian Survival Fund.
Ntabwire said, "We have realised that the magnitude of the orphan crisis and the fact that orphans are a voiceless lot in our community requires wider experience and information sharing.
We are widening our scope to go beyond the national boundaries and spear head the effort to involve as many people by making available information through the world wide web."
