THE Soroti district council chairman, Capt. John Emilly Otekat, has urged Teso MPs to form a strong parliamentary group

By Richard Otim THE Soroti district council chairman, Capt. John Emilly Otekat, has urged Teso MPs to form a strong parliamentary group to push for the speedy disarmament of Karimojong warriors. He said lack of unity, a characteristic of the previous Teso parliamentary group, had cost the region a lot in terms of peace and development. "Conflicts hinder progress in any society, so be united for our people to move ahead and realise peace," Otekat said on Saturday at a joint meeting between Soroti district heads of department and MPs from Soroti at the district chambers. He said the issue of Karimojong cattle rustlers in Katakwi district was a political issue that ought to be handled by all stakeholders in the region. "Use the group (parliamentary) to lobby for development in the region and pressure Government for the fast disarmament of Karimojong warriors," Otekat said. He appealed to winners and losers in the June 26 parliamentary elections to reconcile. "God appoints leaders and he would like you to forgive each other because reconciliation is very important in life," Otekat said. MPs Peter Charles Koluo (Serere), Elijah Okupa (Kasilo), Alice Asianut (Woman) and information minister in the emorimor government and Soroti Speaker John Oumo attended the meeting. Ends
