Woman remanded over guns

THE wife of one of four armed thugs killed in Iganga last month, was on Wednesday charged on three counts of unlawfully being armed.

By Solomon Muyita THE wife of one of four armed thugs killed in Iganga last month, was on Wednesday charged on three counts of unlawfully being armed. Annet Mucunguzi, 20, the wife of Faljalla Mohamed of Kibuli, Kitoro zone, Kampala, was arrested by the Police on June 29 with a sub-machine gun, two stick-grenades and 30 bullets. She was charged with unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition and grenades before Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Vincent Mugabo. She denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of sh200,000. Her two sureties were bonded sh5m not cash. The prosecution led by Joyce Anyango said Mucunguzi was unlawfully in possession of a sub-machine gun No. 56-3514455 and ammunition without a valid firearms certificate. Anyango said investigations into the matter were incomplete. Mucunguzi was remanded until August 15 when the case comes up for mention. She is said to have been arrested by the Police as she hastily tried to flee their home on learning of the death of her husband in Iganga.
