Matembe was unethical!

SIR—Mrs Miria Matembe, the ethics and integrity minister, was quoted in the press as complaining about not being appointed a full cabinet minister. Matembe forgot that some of her colleagues completely lost their portfolios, not because they were non-achievers but because many interests had to be balanced. Integrity and ethics are not only about corruption and abuse of office but also self-respect and principles. By crying foul because she was not appointed full minister, Matembe portrayed herself as a person of excessive ambition and greed. It is also indiscipline and lack of respect for Matembe to ask the appointing authority to explain publicly why he did not appoint her to a full cabinet post. I regard this behaviour as unethical especially given that it came from the very minister in charge of ethics and integrity. Joseph Kyomya Katera Kampala
