A national volleyball league will be introduced this year.

Uganda Volleyball Federation president Tom Omongole revealed the plan at the prize-giving ceremony of KAVC Founders international at Lugogo indoor stadium. “UVF has finalised plans to introduce the national volleyball league in September. This would help to take the game to the countryside and popularise it,” said Omongole. Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC), would field four teams, two for men and two for women. KCC volleyball club women’s team, OKDS volleyball club for Old Kampala Deaf School, Makerere University, Nkumba University, Makerere University Business School, Club 61 from Nabisunsa Girls and Mount St. Mary’s would feature in the national league. UVF secretary Joseph Opio disclosed that the volleyball federation is negotiating with yet undisclosed companies to sponsor the league. Meanwhile, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) will in September sponsor a volleyball course in Kampala. In a letter addressed to UVF president,Omongole, FIVB coordinator Lucinda Arsenio confirmed FIVB’S commitment. “Following your interest in entering our 2001 SAP program, am pleased to confirm the staging of a one week SAP course in your country,” he said. The course is scheduled for September 3-11. r UGANDA will send two officials to the an FIVB course in Khartoum, Sudan in September.
