A MAN believed to have participated in the 1999 attack in which eight foreign tourists and one Ugandan were killed at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, has been arrested in Mbarara and brought to Kampala, reports Davis Weddi. The Director of CID, Elizabeth Kutesa, yesterday identified the suspect as Akim. She said they had clues that would enable them arrest several others. “We got a breakthrough and picked up this boy. He is part of the group on whom we had various clues,” Kutesa said but declined to give the details. She said Akim is a Ugandan. Sources said officers from the US Regional Security office were yesterday at CID headquarters over the matter. On March 1, 1999, an estimated 100 rebels among them suspected renegade Rwandan militia (Interahamwe), attacked Bwindi, killing American and New Zealand tourists and park warden John Ross Wagaba. The US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) have been investigating the massacre. Ends
