CECAFA has changed the dates of the 2001 Senior Challenge Cup for the fourth time.

By Peter Ekarot CECAFA has changed the dates of the 2001 Senior Challenge Cup for the fourth time. The Kigali, Rwanda event now runs from December 8-22. The regional body had fixed the cup from October 27-November 10, shifted it to November 17-December 1 then December 1-15. The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations secretary Nicholas Musonye said on phone from Nairobi that the change had been made on request. “Several member nations asked for time to complete their national leagues and other domestic competitions,” said Musonye. Musonye was confirmed new CECAFA secretary during a FIFA general congress sitting in Argentina in July after CAF vice president and regional boss Farah Addo sacked Hassan Haji of Kenya Football Federation. Defending champions Uganda, Eritrea, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Burundi and hosts Rwanda had confirmed their participation in the event slated for Amahoro National Stadium. Sudan and Djibouti had not yet confirmed their participation. The club cup is still fixed for December 29-January 12, 2002 in Mwanza, Tanzania. Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania will first take on Cameroon in the second edition of the sh100m Castle Lager cup in Mwanza from October 24-27. r Police 4 Mengo 0 YUSUF Kinene’s hat trick yesterday spurred Police to an overwhelming victory over Mengo Black Stars in the Sportsman Kakungulu cup game at Namboole stadium.
