President Yoweri Museveni and the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Mutebi, on Saturday officially opened Ridar Hotel in Seeta, Mukono.
The three-star hotel was constructed at sh1.5b.
Museveni and Mutebi were accompanied by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Joseph Ssemwogerere, and diplomats.
Museveni lauded the proprietors of the hotel for starting up such venture, adding that it was a symbol of the country’s economic development.
“In the 1960s, political leaders thought that if government starts to engage in business with local and foreign people, it will make profit but this was not the case.
“When Movement came into power, we decided that the Government should not indulge in business. Government was left with implementing policies like road maintenance and power regulation,†he said.
Museveni said the country needs private investors because they encourage unity and harmony among the people in the area.
He also advised Ugandans to refrain from mistreating investors.
“Do not mistreat investors because they will be able to give you jobs as hotel attendants and sales officers like at Ridar hotel,†he said.
Ssemwogerere, who spoke on behalf of Mutebi, said Buganda strongly supports investors.
He hailed the proprietors of Ridar hotel for their excellent entrepreneurship and said the Mengo government will support them.
The managing director of Ridar Hotel, Fred Kitogo, asked the Government to assist them in providing piped water, stabilising electric power and tarmacking the road near the hotel.
Kitogo said the hotel has 50 rooms with a presidential and executive suite.
