SIR—Fred Lwegaba, in his letter of August 1, entitled “Accountants”, says that the registrar of accountants in Uganda has suspended their registration. This is not true because: - The Auditor General by section 19 of the Accountants Statute is responsible for the registration of accountants. The registration is going on. All enrolled accountants can apply to the Auditor General for registration. - The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) is enrolling qualifying accountants as ICPAU members (full and associates). There are 222 full members and 16 associate members. All accountants eligible for enrolment are advised to apply for ICPAU membership. - The institute is issuing practising certificates and licences to full and associate members who want to practise. So far there are 54 firms of Certified Public Accountants and 12 firms of Associate Accountants duly authorised by the institute to practise. G. Mbalire Kasanya Secretary, ICPAU
