Sironko or Sorooko: Banyole and Baganda are not the issue!

SIR—I refer to the letter by6 Sam Simbowa Mukyebi of Buhugu Sironko district, entitled Sironko is a corruption by Banyole and Baganda, on July 21. I must say I am deeply concerned about the way some sections of people in Mbale and Sironko districts are handling issues. Mr Mukyebi and other Bamasaba, with all due respect, the name will not change anything about our people. As Shakesphere said, "A rose remains a rose even when you use another name.” My advice is that we should concentrate on issues that directly affect our welfare. These are education, poverty alleviation through improved farming, primary health care, health, advocating for political and human rights, among others. We should be seen to develop from level to level in these issues and above all stay one. We should avoid tribal sentiments and sectarian tendencies towards one another, because Banyole or Baganda are all Ugandans. They are not aliens and if they contributed to that name, we should be proud that we are associated with them. That is how our country will remain united and will continue to develop. But the name is not an issue. Name withheld Kampala
