KIBULI Secondary School in Kampala was abruptly closed yesterday and all students sent home following an abortive strike on Sunday night. Official holidays are due on Friday.
On Saturday, the school suspended all S6 students after they attempted to strike over poor food. The director of studies, Stephen Mugume, said the students may have found their way back to wreck havoc in the school.
School authorities said the decision was reached after some students allegedly poured petrol around the school’s main library, computer laboratory and the dormitories in an attempt to set it ablaze.
A senior two student at the school, Isaac Mwanje, was yesterday arrested by the Police in connection with the incident.
“He was found moving in odd places around the school in the night. When we asked him, he failed to explain, so we handed him over to the Police,†Mugume said.
Among items recovered around the doused places were bottles filled with petrol, basins, towels, pillows, blankets and other cloths, doused with fuel.
Witnesses said some students were sleeping in the dormitories when they suddenly detected a strong smell of fuel.
