International Programme on the Elimination of Child labour(IPEC) and International Labour Organisation(ILO) donated a cheque of over sh3m

By Angela Kamugasa in Tororo International Programme on the Elimination of Child labour(IPEC) and International Labour Organisation(ILO) donated a cheque of over sh3m to eight Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools in Tororo. The money goes towards the purchase of uniforms and scholastic materials for about 300 needy children. It is one of the preventive methods of child labour to encourage more children attend school in addition to government’s effort of UPE. Jennifer Lukeera, programme coordinator of the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) handed the cheque to Mr Tom Malinga, chairman of the child labour committee of the Doho Rice Scheme, recently. This was at Nampologoma Primary School. FUE is in partnership with IPEC-ILO in the fight against child labour. After handing over the cheque, Lukeera said: ‘This money will cater for scholastic materials for 270 needy children. This is our contribution.”
