Reggae made in Uganda

By Vision Reporter If you think reggae music begins and ends with Bob Marley think again. A new Uganda musician has emerged to hoist the reggae higher than any local musician has ever done. Maddox Semanda Sematimba is currently on the roll with his Tukolagane album, which was released by Kasiwukira Studios recently. Tukolagane is the same song a former radio DJ, George Mulindwa, claimed was his composition. The album was recorded in Sweden by Maddox. It was given to Mulindwa for promotion purposes because at that time, he hosted the only reggae programme on Simba FM. The surefire hits on the album are Tukolagane, Irene, Namagembe. The subject matter is diverse as well. It ranges from love, anti-war, and peace. The structure does a lot for the entire album. It upholds the irie, one-drop reggae vibe. Combined with the harmonies on backups, he produces a sweet sounding synthesis. I only wish our much-vaunted reggae and ragga musicians can just summon a tenth of Maddox Sematimba’s zeal. Ugandan music would certainly be taken to another high level. Ends
