By Samson Opus LIGHT welterweight Alex Misiwa (KBC) has shattered golfer Steven Birungi’s hopes of advancing to the finals of the national juniors boxing championship. Misiwa stole the show in the close fight with a super guard against Birungi’s uppercut to win 3-2 as the championship entered semi-finals at Lugogo yesterday . The three-time Uganda Golf Open champion was off target as his opponent avoided his strong left. “It was bad luck, his scoring was better. I look forward to better results in novices,” Birungi said as he gasped for breath. Another thrilling bout was in welterweight where Basajjabalaba’s Fred Bogere scored a second round knockout against hard punching Robert Tumuhimbise (KBC). Tumuhimbise looked headed for victory before Bogere fixed him on the ropes with powerful left-and-right combinations. Kampala City Council (KCC) however jumped in to the lead with 18 points. Kampala Citizen SS was in second place, a point behind, City SS and KBC joint third with 15 points. Fourth is Katwe with 13, three better than Masaka. The tournament that drew 206 boxers from 14 clubs takes a break today ahead of Sunday’s finals. ends
