THE Apac Resident District Commissioner, Charles Opio Akome, has cautioned residents of Ager sub-county in Adyegi parish against peddling rumours that there was fresh rebel recruitment in the area, reports Ali Mao.
The warning followed recent allegations that some former agents of Col. Dr Kizza Besigye in the area were recruiting rebels.
an August 12 letter to the RDC signed by William Ayena, the Apala Imalo LCI chairman indicated that over 21 people had been recruited in Ager.
Akome said, “I got the information about the said rebel group and indeed I took steps to verify it but I found no supportive evidence of rebels in the area.â€
“I sent security forces to the area to find out what was on the ground, but fortunately they realised that the allegations were politically motivated,†He added.
Akome appealed to anybody with evidence to pass it to security personnel.
