SIR—your paper ran a story on Friday that there were mixed feelings about John katuramu’s
death sentence. I have no feelings for people who deprive other people of their lives so that they can advance their own interests or protect them. However, much as Happy kijanangoma had a family which suffered bitter grief at his untimely death, I cannot help feeling pity for Katuramu’s family. However evil katuramu was, his family were not accomplices in his evil designs. It is a pity that having risen from humble beginnings and made good, katuramu should now end up with a noose around his neck. katuramu’s problems started with his close association with royalty. The man belongs to a non-descript clan despised by the Batoro. He not only married a mubiitokati but his friendship with the late Omukama Patrick Kaboyo saw him accede to one of the highest offices in the kingdom. Kaboyo blundered! Katuramu had no business being a Muhikirwa! Unpalatable rumours have been around about katuramu’s conduct with some very close members of the royal family. There is also the issue of Omukama Kaboyo’s death. Few batoro believe that kaboyo died of natural causes. Well, the mills of the gods grind slowly but man, they grind exceedingly fine.
