South Africa trounced Nigeria 11-0 runs in the final. Michael Dempsay and Ndevu Philastaus inspired South Africa with 2 runs each as they outclassed Nigeria to clinch the title for the third time. “We automatically knew we were going to win from the moment that Nigeria fielded a weak pitcher,” South African coach Brian Lombad said after the game. He praised Uganda’s performance in the tournament. “Uganda played better than we expected” “They are the only team that scored a run against us.” he added. Nigeria took second place while Uganda settled for the third position. South Africa ladies lifted the softball trophy after winning all their matches. They also defeated the selected team by 11-0 runs in the closing game. Botswana finished second, Nigeria third, Kenya fourth while Uganda failed to win a single game. Kenya’s men team also lifted the softball Cup after whipping a struggling Uganda side in their two games. Africa softball and baseball executive director Friday Ichide disclosed to The New Vision that Uganda would receive a baseball coach before the end of this year. ENDS
