A mzungu in Lira drew curious stares when he kept looking intently at a copy of Rupiny the weekly Luo paper. On-lookers were first shocked then amused at the prospect of a white man being able to read Luo. But this then turned to suspicion when the man did not turn the pages for some time. This prompted one of the local lads to stealthily find out what the man was reading. The mzungu was not bothered by this intrusion, and pointed animatedly at something in the paper. The lad then beckoned his friends to come and have a look, and soon there was a small crowd looking excitedly at the controversial picture that has recently caused a storm in the Red Pepper, which the mzungu had concealed inside his copy of Rupiny. When this reporter asked him why he was hiding the paper, he innocently replied that he did not want to draw undue attention, and was quick to add that he was not interested in pornography.
