Wakiso receives building materials worth sh280m

By Catherin Kigozi Volunteer Action for Development (VAD) a local NGO has donated scholastic and building materials worth sh300m to six schools in Wakiso District. Speaking to headteachers during the handing-over ceremony of 270 desks and 565 bags of cement to the six schools recently, the District Education Officer (DEO) Mr Sekamatte Male urged headteachers to develop a culture of maintenance. “My humble appeal to you is to develop the spirit and culture of maintenance. Maintenance will not require VAD to do that. It’s you the teachers who are responsible for keeping this property by utilising it appropriately,” he said. The schools received the donations as follows, St.Noa Mawagali, 100 bags of cement, 50 desks and 50 iron sheets. Namuserea Primary School, 100 bags of cement, 50 desks. Sanda primary school got 120 bags of cement, 100 iron sheets and 50 desks. Other schools include Wakiso Primary school, 100 bags of cement, 20 bags of lime and 50 desks, Bira primary School, 50 bags of cement, 60 iron sheets, 80 pieces of timber and 25 desks. Mugaba primary school got 120 bags of cement, 100 iron sheets and 50 desks. Busiro East MP, Mr Michael Sebalu, urged the schools to use the materials well. He said all schools would be required to give accountability. “Do not personalise these things. They are meant for the whole community not the headteachers,” he said. , you will have to give accountability for these things” he said. He promised continued support to the NGO for purposes of uplifting the education standards in the district.
