Lukanga miss felt

By Samson Opus THE absence of boxing powerhouse Lukanga was felt in Lugogo as registration for the Nyangweso Cup concluded yesterday. The tournament originally scheduled to run throughout this week has attracted a paltry 55 boxers from 12 clubs — the lowest entry over five years since Lukanga asserted their dominance. The club manager Samuel “Don King” Lukanga pulled out of UABF activities last month at the height of wrangles in the federation. Lukanga used to fund a consortium of six clubs including Najja, Katwe, Busabala and Serwadda. Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) acting secretary Mohamed Sebuguzi said because of the low turn up, action would be reduced to four days starting Wednesday. Kampala Boxing Club (KBC) leads the entry with 11 boxers, followed by UPDF with eight, Police (6), KCC and Entebbe (4). Meanwhile, Kampala City Council is set to defend the inter-cities title next weekend with bouts against Kenya. Club coach Charles Lubulwa said a full team to make the Nairobi trip would be named today.
